Holy cow! It was cold this morning. Now, I’m slightly ashamed to say that, because it was only 40 degrees out and my home town is currently suffering from temps in the -20s. My only defense is that I’ve lived in Florida for almost 12 years now, and I can’t help it if my body has adjusted to the climate. So there.

On a funny note, for the second time I’ve received a phone call where the person calling thought they were calling Starbucks. Two different people calling. Next time, I’m going to ask the caller some questions about why they think my cell phone is a Starbucks.

I don’t even like coffee.

In knitting news, I’ve knit 3 more cat toys, all in one night while watching The Tudors with the girls. One toy went to Cher’s cats, the second went to Karen’s, and the third is currently stored in a safe place until I can bring it over for my mom’s cats.

We’re getting closer to the end of season 2 of The Tudors, pretty soon Anne will be losing her head, and then we’ll probably have to pick something new to watch for a time, since season 3 starts airing in April. Perhaps I can convince everyone to watch Ugly Betty, I’ve been thinking about trying that series.

Okay that’s all I’ve got for now.

Inauguration Day

I’ll keep this part brief because if you want to read about the inauguration there are many places that can sum it up better. Honestly, for me, Obama’s speech was excellent. I’m not politically minded, and don’t have a lot of opinions on politics so I can’t confidently discuss those things. But the speech made much sense to me and I’m hopeful the sentiments presented in the words spoken are what we have to look forward to.

And the benediction from Dr. Joseph Lowery was like a cherry on the top, cause it was awesome and made me laugh. :P

Aside from that, where have I been the last few days? Just busy.

Saturday I was supposed to spend the day with my mom but she ended up getting called into work, so after the weekly trip to the Humane Society to play with the kitties I ended up just chilling out and playing EQ2. It was nice because I haven’t played in a while, so got caught up finishing up quests. Little things, but it felt like a lot was accomplished. Nothing wrong with that feeling.

The pet tags I ordered came in last week so my crazy monkeys are finally tagged, and the worry about what happens if one of them gets out of the house has relaxed a bit. They of course didn’t really like the new weight around their necks, but they’ve gotten over it. Eventually they’ll each be micro chipped as well, but micro chipping six cats is a little too expensive to do all at once.

Sunday I spent 9+ hours on the phone with my best friend back home in Wisconsin. Yep that’s right, 9+ hours. What can I say, our phone conversations are EPIC.

Aaaaaaaaand I’ve finished my first knitting project! Like most “first knitting projects” it was a scarf, but it came out pretty good, in my opinion, and at the very least, I’m proud of it. I also knit a cat toy right afterwards that only took me an hour to knit up. The cats went nuts for it, but then I’m pretty sure it was more for the catnip inside of it, rather than the fantastic knitting job I did. Planning on making a bunch more, since now I know the pattern they should knit up much quicker.

On the work front, in addition to learning that no one will be receiving raises this year, we got an email on Monday that 401k matching is suspended until further notice. It’s rather disappointing news. While being upset and disappointed, I have to remind myself that I should be thankful that I still have a job, especially in the light that on Friday alone 50,000 jobs were eliminated across the country.

Which brings me to the news of Circuit City closing. While I have no loyalty to Circuit City itself, it was the only electronics store in our town, and I’m going to miss it. When I went in on Saturday to check out the liquidation sales, the place was even busier than it was on Black Friday. And after all that I only purchased three movies.

Friday the beginning.

Scrambling to get ready for work this morning, which is my usual routine, got a call from my boss that when they did the tally of my time card this morning I would end up with an hour of overtime if I worked my 8 ours today. So was asked to come in an hour late. Times are tough, we’re not allowed even a minute of overtime. And suddenly I had an extra hour on my hands. If only I had known about it earlier I would have used it for sleeping.

Anime night did occur last night, though we got a very late start on it because The Office started up again, and Karen and I both are big fans. Finally started watching some Nana but were only able to get 3 episodes in. Watching the Nana anime with people is interesting for me, since I’ve already read all the available manga. It’s refreshing, but then I already know what’s going to happen through the entire series and beyond, as the manga is ongoing. Going back to the beginning of the story gives a new perspective on how things are leading up to bigger events, and the narrative has a much greater importance to me now.

Got started on that NES controller project, which went well. Got all the plastic measured and cut out, and started on the stitching. I’m amused that as I cut every thing out, I though to myself “I’ll have this done in no time”. After four hours of stitching, I barely made a dent on the first piece. Glad I started working on it now. Will try to remember to take some pictures.

Perhaps I’ll write more later, feeling chatty today. But in the meantime here’s the Crazy Cat Lady Photo of the Day:

It’s a looooooong boring day here.

One of our new employees who started exactly 3 days ago did not show up for work today. Dunno what the details are, but I guess he quit. Kinda odd.

Yesterday I went into Michaels to check on knitting needles, which was supposed to be purely a fact finding mission. Upon leaving I ended up buying a few things I had forgotten I needed (and some things I imagine I didn’t really need), including these plastic sheets for another Nintendo related craft project. Something else I can hopefully finish before Valentine’s day.

Last night’s dinner and a movie was a pretty good night. We ended up watching Wall-E and Goodfellas, two movies that go hand in hand I know. AND we were able to stay computer free, well mostly. But it did end up being a nice relaxing evening. At one point Yuki was sitting on my lap and I somehow managed to hypnotize her by rubbing her face. Quite funny to see.

Tonight is anime night, I haven’t confirmed with Karen and Cindy yet if they’ll be able to make it, but I hope so, cause I’d really like to watch some more Nana. Either way I want to get another few inches knitted on my scarf, or start the NES controller project. Stuff to do, stuff to do!

Three consecutive blogs! Oh my!

The day I was on time.

We had a breakfast meeting this morning, which was blissfully more about breakfast and less about meeting. It did mean getting out of bed earlier than usual, a task that I was worried I may not be up to, but somehow I made it on time.

Last night was the weekly hang out night, where the guys get together to game and the girls get together and watch saucy girlie TV and movies. We’ve moved onto season 2 of The Tudors which is quite enjoyable, season 2 focusing on the fall of Anne Boleyn. It’s obviously not historically accurate, but entertaining either way. Plus I managed to get a bunch of knitting done on my scarf. Since I’m still new to knitting and a bit slow its only 50% done, but I’m really happy with the way it’s looking. I haven’t made any glaring mistakes with it yet at least!

I need to get cracking on knitting project #2 soon. The Goomba hat. I’d like to finish it by Valentine’s Day.

Hopefully today won’t drag on too much, really looking forward to going out to dinner tonight and then snuggling down to watch Wall-E with Joe. He hasn’t seen it yet so it’s exciting, and it’s a fantastic movie. I’m looking forward to seeing it again.

Oh and I figured out how to blog from my phone, so who knows, I may end up sending in little updates from here and there.

Holy cow an update!

For those of you anxiously awaiting the news that I have completed all of the goals I listed months ago, and I know there's a lot of you, I'm sorry to disappoint. Not a one! There's always next year right?

I decided last night that my favorite time of the day is the moment I get home from work. I get to walk into my cozy home and am greeted by my several kitties who do their best to pretend they missed me all day. It's a nice feeling.

On that note here is my new feature, since I have recently decided to embraace my inner crazy cat lady.
